This past week was one that was very interesting in regards to this class. One of the most impressionable things that stood out to me this week came from the video featuring Guy Kawasaki. He shared a simple message of "Do what you love." In the video he used an example about not doing something purely based upon the money. He mentioned this because no matter what happens, you will most likely be miserable doing what you do. When I returned home from serving a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, the only thing I could think about were careers that would make me a lot of money. At first I wanted to be a doctor, and then I decided to make a shift towards dentistry. As I was attending classes to help me prepare for these professions, I found my self really disinterested. I have always had a passion for school, and for the first time in my life. I had to really evaluate what it is that I wanted to do, and at the end of the day I decided to switch to something that I loved. The profession that I ultimately chose was parks and recreation. It was a safe haven for me as a kid who grew up in a rough household. I loved playing sports and quite honestly I played some just so I could be away from home a little longer. I want to help make opportunities for kids who are in similar situations as myself when I was younger. It doesn't make the same money that a doctor would make, but at least I would be happy and feel fulfilled with my life. Very similar to Mr. Kawasaki, I was able to figure it out before it was too late. I don't know what the future will hold, but I do know that whatever it is I decide to do, I'm going to love it and have a passion for it.
